Studio KIKKE & HEBBE
Studio KIKKE & HEBBE
Things always go differently from how you planned them. And that’s the beauty of it! My career has been a search for my true passions. From nurse in the OR , industrial designer of emergency respiratory products, to designer of Studio KIKKE & HEBBE interior products. You couldn’t make it up, could you?
I found the new technologies, the manual work and precision in the operating room highly fascinating, but I would have preferred to be at the helm myself (which was impossible) and I missed being able to help develop new technologies and products. As an industrial designer, I was finally able to do what I wanted: to develop life-saving products as part of a design team. I was getting fed up with being buried in paperwork 80% of the time. I also still wanted to be at the helm and was unable to put all my creative ideas into it. As a child, I used to dream of having a big creative workshop with all sort of tools such as saws, drills, cans of spray paint and a workbench. I had to wait for that until I was 35, when I quit my job and set up Studio KIKKE & HEBBE. As I had gained experience in product development, marketing and sales, I thought: why not try and set up a business for yourself!
I used to organise workshops in my studio to get a starting income. As for my own collection, I looked at the interior trend of concrete and I discovered that it’s possible to let concrete shine. How cool is that? Soon, my now market-ready concrete glossy lamps were in great demand. It gives me an enormous kick (= KIKKE) when people appreciate and want to have (= HEBBE) my products. As a newcomer to the market, I invested a lot of time in setting up my retail network. It’s now going so well, time is the one thing that stops me from expanding more. Right now I’m working on the next collection, for which I’ll be working with another designer!
