I like to see the details and try to figure out how they made it. Especially for leather goods, amazing how it can be so elegant and trendy.
Nice to meet you all! My name is Carlos but you can also call me Karel “Carlos in Dutch” 🙂 I moved to Amsterdam in 2014, but originally I am from Hong Kong. In my school life back then, I was always a student who studied management and good at mathematics. I love numbers. After my graduation, I was lucky enough to have the chance to pursue a job in the fashion industry, organising fashion shows and jewellery exhibitions. That was the period I found out what I really want for myself in future. I had the chance to be involved in branding for products from different brands, I like to see the details and try to figure out how they made it. Especially for leather goods, amazing how it can be so elegant and trendy. One time I participated in a brand event where they arranged a leather worker to give a workshop demonstrating a process of how they made their bag by their bear hands and crafting tools, and I got so much inspiration from that. After this experience, i started to look into leather craft activities more and more often, and I realised that I wanted to start my own leather craft business.
The reason I started LeatherCraft is because I want to put this passion towards my own leather collection, and hopefully I could share my knowledge with everyone who has the interest her items. I still remember the first leather piece I made. It was a personalised card holder for one of my best friend’s birthday. How great is it to customized a gift for my friend. Later on, I made more leather pieces for my own use, bags, watch strip, smart phone cover, accessories and many more. Many friends ask me how I made my pieces and if I was interested to teach them. That is how I started to organize leather craft workshop. The first workshop I organised was teaching my friends to make a leather key chain. It was so much fun and my friends encourage me to make it into a real business, also teaching the others, sharing my leather craft knowledge. You don’t need to be a designer or a professional crafter to do it, all you need is a pair of hands to get it started.
